the Music is moving

Michael Montgomery and Alex Jenkins make their way across San Francisco, expressing the energy, color and diversity of the City as they go.

This film was all about color. I wanted to evoke the personality, diversity and energy of San Francisco in the style of dance and locations we chose. I wanted the dancers’ movement to convey joy, freedom and open-mindedness that characterize our city.

Editor Lindsay Gauthier and I wanted to reference the characteristic shapes, graphics and bold colors of vintage jazz record album covers from the 50’s and 60’s in the animations in this film.   

The Challenge

Having dancers move across the entire City, and putting lots of graphic effects in a dance film.
